Vanda tessellata x Papilionanda Mimi Palmer

From the R.F. Orchids Crownfox collection in February 2021. When I received the orchid it was not in spike, I was happy to see this push out this past month. They emerged and opened very fast. The fragrance is top of the world and easily one of the most fragrant orchids in the collection. I’ve killed this orchid in the past, a highly desirable division of ‘Illumined’ from Motes orchids back when I first started collecting ( her loss still haunts me). But I’m very excited to have a quality cross back, especially now that I can provide proper growing conditions.

enjoy.

Absolutely wonderful flowers. And excellent photography. That violet tongue is a super feature, as is the jungle exotic spots and colour combination - from say Babylon 5, or Stargate etc hehe

Wonderful flower!

Did you know that tessellata is responsible for producing black vandas? I will cover it in my Black Orchids talk in the AOS webinar series in October this fall 2021.

How did you kill this in the past?
Not sure if you recall the first time Martin came to visit NCOS, some year around 2011/2012.. he brought the division in his offerings. It looked like a small side shoot from the mother plant, barely had a root, definitely recently snipped. I believe it was the winter because I had all the orchids inside. Anyways, if a Vanda is not actively growing they can stall and pout for a long period and it can be very difficult to get them to start back up again if you don't have the temps and humidity high enough. This one never grew and slowly lost all its leaves. 😥

Had to share this second round of blooms. Since June of this year, this plant has bloomed again. This time pushing out two spikes.. each flowers is incredibly incredibly fragrant. Feels like I’m eating some type of cream candy every time I put my nose near it.
