Paphiopedilum Spiderman x sanderianum

I recently acquired two plants from the same cross, Paphiopedilum Spiderman x sanderianum. Both are quite different in overall size and flower shape, petal stance and color.

One item of note, is that the hybridizer has managed to (mostly) breed out the color break in the mid-vein of the dorsal sepal that sanderianum is known for.

I'm still trying to decide which I like better. #1 has intense, rich color, and #2, while not as dark, has a really nice flower shape, with nice strong shoulders.. What do you folks think? (The flowers got a little squished in shipping)

I agree with your comments and I prefer number one. However, if your reason for asking is to decide which one to keep, I would keep both. Important attributes such as number of flowers, plant vigor and ease of flowering can't be known for several years. For me, these would be at least as important as the differences between the two flowers.

Yes, I definitely plan to keep both... I like this cross a lot. It seems that crossing back to sanderianum both lengthened the petals again, and brought more color back into the offspring..
Spiderman is nice, but I like this even more..

The first has great color intensity. The pinched dorsals are a negative trait if they lessen on future blooms this clone could be a killer plant.
