I bought a couple blooming size Paphiopedilum Mystic Isle back in 2015. One of them grew well and flowered several times. After Making several crosses with it I got rid of it. The other one got bigger but never put out a new growth and never flowered. I had it on the sales table at our club meeting several times but no one was interested in it... I’m so glad. Finally after all these years it has bloomed. It’s still one growth but has produced a very nice flower. Might be 4N.

Well, isn't that something? Goes to show that patience (and other's rejections) somehow rewards at the (long) end.

It is true that many polyploid 'runts' grow and flower much later than the faster diploid group. Roy at H&R did mention in one of his talks that one can choose a 4N simply by choosing the slower growers from a batch.
