Is there a drying period you follow in winter or water all year with this media? Moist all the time?

So far I havn't seen such a dark coloured yellowish/brownish clone of P. helenae. Looks very good to me. Congrats

About your growing media: What for is the diatomite as it is acidic? And what is Kiryu sand? I found it as a component for coniferious bonsai which like limestone. Is it a kind of japanese pumice?

The diatomite may be weakly acidic or weakly alkaline，In the habitat, Paphiopedilum may grows on silicate rock. Diatomite pellets are breathable and absorbent，and good for roots, especially symbiotic fungi.
