Paphiopedilum godefroyae ‘Mochi Ball’

My only ‘normal type’ godefroyae is finally opened after a disasterous incident where I knocked off the second bud last week by mistake on another growth. It was so disheartening.

But this huge round flat flower made up for it. At 9 cm NS and petals 5 x 5 cm, it’s almost a perfect circle. I named him ‘Mochi Ball’ because it reminds me of the Japanese rice ball dessert.

I have done that many times but doesn't seem to work as well as they don't seem to have eyes. That or they simply ignore me LOL.

Call it what you like, it's a very good clone and (almost!) a true leucochilum. Congrats!

Maybe you mistook the bud for a little delicacy. I have to say, I've never eaten a mochi ball as nice as this one. I'll take "flat and round" in this case (though I agree breeders have overdone that with many flowers).
