I have this stonei since several years. It never blooms yet. It left its two old leaves and now we can see 2 new growths. The biggest leaf is 13 inches in length and 2 inches in width.
Do you see how I am impatient to see it in bloom
In your opinion, as I am not a specialist of this species, is it possible for it to bloom now or I will ahev to wait one year ?

you will have to wait longer, one maybe 2 years. Mine is 30 inches with second growth about 10inches, still no blooms!

I'm afraid you're going to be waiting a while but it is a really lovely looking plant! I had a very nice one but it was damaged by me being overzealous regarding a possible mite infection upon arrival and treating it with the evil Safer Insecticidal soap which cause phototoxicity and never recovered. Poor plant. That was the END of Safer products in my lifetime. Don't let the name fool you...

Very healthy looking plant. In my experience stonei needs to have two or more larger growths to bloom. Yours will most likely need another year or even two....it will be worth the wait. It looks like you have done a great job so far.

Does stonei really like being wet? :confused:I grow mine rather dry (in very open medium) as I've seen pics of them growing in the wild with their roots rather exposed on the limestone. But then, I live in a humid place anyway. :) When I first bought it, it just stayed 'dormant' (no leaf growth) cos I grew it rather wet and shady to promote new root growth. But now, it grows rather fast in a more sunny area with very good aeration and drainage.. hope to see it flower in about 2 years...:)

Ps: In case anybody wants to know.. I use very coarse dolomite (about 5 cm diameter) and some medium dolomite and charcoal. I fill this up to 1cm below the base of the growth (below the new roots). Then, I sprinkle dried Ixora leaves on the top to give it 'leaf mould' like it will get in the wild.

What a very sad story ! Do you have other one ?

One year. When the second growth comes!

Ramon:)

You can see it with a spy eye or a loupe !!! :D

Mine do not seem to have a special need for extra water, but I also keep my GH between 70-80% humidity. My kolopakingii really sucks up water in comparison to the stoneis. But with high light and humidity my stoneis are very fast growing.

I too have used Safer's Insecticidal Soap for many years on both species and hybrids with no problems whatsoever. It is an extremely safe, useful and effective product.

Your plant seem like it's big enought to bloom. Judging from the leaf color, it might need little bit more light. The leaf should have little bit of yellow tint color (more like Granny Smith ripe apple).

Safers....hmmm.....ignore the name..some of the products are OK, but ignore the soap products. I've only found soap to be effective against aphids, unless its a drop or so added to help emulsify another pesticide mixture. Since soap is also used, and marketed by Safer's, as an herbicide in a higher concentration, I'd stay away from using it on plants. The line between safe and toxic is too fine, and not consistent between species. Oh...its a great plant, by the way! Take care, Eric

Thank you very much for advices.

As wonderlen3000 said, I think the growth is mature and maybe a strong light would by much appreciate by stonei :)

i would be absolutley shocked if that thing bloomed like that. the light is good like that, just keep doing what you've been doing and keep it for another growth. stoneis are very slow and have to get very big.
