This is a first-bloom seedling of Paphiopedilum philippinense variety alba. The species comes from the Philippines, of course, where it grows on seashore limestone cliffs, usually in association with the roots of Vanda batemannii. This alba variety is much smaller than the normal plant. The flowers on this one are about four inches across, produced on a plant with a seven inch leafspan. A very tough little plant with stiff leaves. I started growing this plant in full sun last year, at Rick's suggestion, and now it has bloomed. It came from J & M Orchids, now closed due to hurricanes.
