Hello all,

The co-admins have decided to ban our first member. The poor guy went by the name of Atlas33. He was obviously a spammer, who only posted two threads and they were both for the sale of diet pills.

In honor of Atlas33, we have updated the forum rules. The rules can be found in a locked sticky thread at the top of the Greetings & Salutations forum. But for those of you too lazy or disinterested to go look, here is the addition we made to the rules.

"7. Spammers will not be warned about posting advertisements on our forum. If you join the forum for the sole purpose of selling diet pills, software, medication, pornography or any other obvious form of spam, you will be banned immediately and permanently."

Thanks for reading. As always, if you want to voice your questions or concerns about forum issues, you can post here or contact us at [email protected]

And because some of you have asked. Zach (kentuckiense) has not been banned, regardless of what his user title says. He just enjoys being a rebel. He is punk rawk.

And I was sure it was me that you banned... :)

If you can still read a thread about a member who has been banned, I can assure you, you have not been banned. :)

So long Atlas33, we hardly knew ye.

Oh I have so much practice from 'that other place' that I'd smack down any competition with an iron fist. *grin*

Other forums suck. :)

"Don't sell anything here."
"If you sell something you owe us money."
"You owe us money for posting here."
"Did we mention we want your money?"
"You are banned because I am psychotic."
"I can't make my car payment, so give me some money."

Who hasn't heard those lines from other forum admins?

Rob, you need to change your avatar. It is in direct competition with the Slippertalk logo. If you don't change it, you will be banned.

Not nearly arbitrary or obscure enough. You are going to have to try better than that, you have some professional competition.

Although if you want my, far superior, avatar for the slippertalk icon, I would certainly understand. :poke: :)

Rob, I think that I can offer you some competition. I was banned from the other one at least 3 times, for some of the most astounding reasons. That would be a contest.

We haven't fired our cannons in weeks. I say go ahead and post the details.

Coming up with something completely crazy to ban someone for is hard. I can't think of anything.

I saw that diet pills post this morn and was excited. So now you're saying I can't have the diet pills? I need those freakin' pills! Am I safe in assuming you all know I'm not a spammer? And as (not) such can I start selling porn and low mortgage rates? :arrr:

I guess I don't know why posters are banned except for the obvious reasons(diet ads and such). I just know that I rarely check any of the other forums anymore, but usually read this one twice a day.

To get banned on this forum you have to be a spammer, or you have to be so completely, unbelievably hateful to someone on the board that we can't believe you are human. Profanity and namecalling help, and insulting someone's mother usually speeds the process along. Other than that, you can say pretty much anything you want *Bush sucks*.

You wouldn't believe the stupid reasons other forums give for banning someone. I also dislike how money driven other forums are. Half the time they don't even try to hide the fact that they are out for profit.

When information and education is influenced by profit, only bad can come of it.

The last time that I was banned, this is what happened:

Someone posted a plant for sale in the classifieds column on the board for a Paph richardianum. Might have been Heather, actually, I don't remember. Now, the rules were pretty explicit that vendors were not allowed to post plants for sale in the forum, but I wasn't sure whether I wasn't allowed to buy one, either, so I needed to ask someone.

The problem was, that having been banned previously and having been marked as a "vendor", my Private Messaging capabilities at the forum had been disabled. So, rather that looking up email addresses, I posted a reply to the thread, and asked the Mod to email me, since I had a question, and I posted my yahoo email address. Very short and sweet.

BANNED!

It didn't exactly take me by surprise, but I was curious, so I emailed and asked why. I'd copy and paste the response here, but I think that's going a little too far :) It was amusing, though. Claimed that posting my email address was advertising (even though it was my yahoo address).

They did let me back in.

I still say Zach should be banned for trying to trick people into thinking that he was banned.

Dissent will not be tolerated!

Of course, then I'd have to be banned for dissenting against the official policy that dissent is ok.

(It's not the banning on the 'other' forum, it's the arbitrary deleting of posts that really ticks me off.) (I would've said 'pisses me off', but I didn't wanna get banned)
