Welcome to the forum!
We have several other Aussie members - Bench 72, Stephan, and Billie to name a few...I'm sure they'll pop in with some good ideas for you.

Putting together a collection is always fun, feel free to let us know what you're thinking about adding, we're rather good at convincing...;)

G'day manfred! Great to see another Aussie here...

I'm also in Sydney, so a couple of suggestions would be try and get to some of the orchid shows and fairs (there's one in St Ives in a couple of weeks)... or a couple of the local society meetings... also, up the road, ie Peats Ridge is Royale Orchids... they have a web presence so you may want to check that out...

hope that helps out as a start...

cheers

hi heather
strange isnt it i always think how good it would be to live in a country with no quarantine restriction i always drool over usa and european offerings.
well never mind its human to want what we cant have
regards manfred

Manfred, the USA and others may have a less strict Quarantine laws than ours, but at least we have practically all the species available to us thanks to our less stringent (less prohibitive / less crazy?) treatment of CITES legislations!

woo hooo!!!

Are you folks from Australia familiar with Adalaide Orchids? Stephen Monkhouse is probably more known for his Zygopetalum breeding, but he also has a lot of Paphs. His business used to be headquartered in Australia, but he's recently joined with another outfit in Bali. The business is now called Milo Bali Adelaide Orchids: http://www.adelaideorchids.com/

Hey Manfred

I've already PM'd you but Welcome once more :) - There's quite a few Aussie Orchid nurseries on the web - very few have large numbers of slipper orchids though. Here's a few I've found;

http://www.easyorchids.com/index.htm
http://members.iinet.net.au/~ezi-gro/index.html
http://www.prorchids.com/
http://www.khorchids.com/price.html
http://www.robertsonorchids.com.au/

Soon to come apparently is
http://www.rosellaorchids.com/about.php

and others who aren't on the web include Nicky Zurcher in South Aus as well as Species Plus in Victoria. There are sure to be hidden gems in nurseries here and there.

Cheers
Stephan

wow P7R is interesting and he seems to have some flowering size.i am for instant gratification too impatient to wait for years to see them flowering
thanks again for your help

the latest Orchids Australia magazine has a write up on Adelaide Orchids..

actually, I wondered about the logistics of having a nursery in Bali, esp issues with quarantine of plants... but I better read the article before I keep blabbin...

One other thing about P & R Orchids is that they are supposedly closing down... so that will be quite a loss for Australia as they tend to import quite a lot of really interesting plants esp the new breeding in Taiwan.

cheers

Stephen's website is always in a state of change, but don't be put off by that. Don't be afraid to contact him by email. He and his wife, Robyn, have been good about responding -- at least to me, they have.
