Welcome from Madeira!

I'm new here too, but I've been into orchids for about 25 years ago. I was an intern in 2000 at Longwood Gardens and got to manage all of the orchid houses while the head gardeners took vacations, so I really found my love of orchids right there in your backyard.
You might likely know Sarah Hadean who manages the living plant collection at Smithsonian (which includes 6,000 orchids.) She was an intern at Longwood for a few years about the same time, I think.

Welcome! I the same. My lights give me more growth than I need and I’ll do about anything rather than deal with insects indoors.
Yes I have found the same. I agree that there are for sure many downsides with outdoor growing. I haven't had any bug issues but I do find the seedling and compots keep growing more consistently indoors. I like when the plants can get thoroughly flushed by a big rain though. Brachys and multiflorals seem to like the heat the most.
