Every August the summer blooming Calanthe flower, in this case an unknown complex hybrid involving C. masuca (AKA C. sylvatica), a plant that is found on Japan's southernmost islands. The flowers of this form open pink/violet and the lip eventually fades to a nice salmon orange before falling.

This one's easy to flower provided it gets plenty of warmth in summer and above freezing temperatures in winter. Although these plants are evergreen types, they are tropical in origin and cannot take any serious cold.
