These are the pics of a Phrag Calurum division that had one two inch root on it the I tried the S/H culture on. This after about 8 months ( I think ) The container is a disposable drinking cup from the local supermarket 80mm diam'.
Hydroton is the red bits.

Looking good!
I'm doing a little experiment myself - I got a sand. compot in Aug. & they're all doing fine but a couple months ago decided to try 2 in hydroton. They are also in plastic cups & I'm seeing roots already!

Looks like that experiment is paying off !! :clap:Will you be converting more ?

Hydroton is a rather expensive item here against other products. I might get some more for Phrags. I am using a new bark and scoria ( volcanic rock ) mix which seems to be working very well. I'm reluctant to change a good thing.

I will, especially if I see a decline or at repotting, the roots aren't up to par. If I recieve a plant that's already growing in it, I'll leave it alone.
I do like the fact that the media doesn't break down & is reusable. Initially it may cost more but in the long run it will be cheaper.
I don't like it when I knock a pot over. I was cautioned about the weight, make sure you have sturdy benches, as a grower came in one morning to find his bench had collapsed during the night! Marbles everywhere!

Root system looks great - What exactly do you call -

semi hydro ? well done . I'm wondering watering ebbflow - or does it sit in trays of water - seems to be working quite well to have that growth over winter . -thanks for sharing .
