This is definitely a spike on one of my Bulbophyllum macrobulbon species
Which I've not ID'ed, I think it could be spiesii - but time will show -

UPDATE
Now the spike is on collison course diretly towards the bottom of the pot - so I put on a plastic setup and hopefully it will change course !! Any suggestions ?

I agree cut the pot. I had to do that for a Phal spike last year and it worked fine.The spike continued to grow downward but it looked greathanging.
