This is a very old hybrid from 1916. This actual plant may date from then. The cross is canhamiana x trianae. Canhamiana is purpurata x mossiae. Clearly semi alba clones of the parents were used to make this hybrid. It’s a division bought from the Fischer’s at Orchids Limited and not yet fully grown. The clone is clearly very vigorous with three new growths in just its second year with me. The three spikes produced twelve flowers but I cut off three as there was no way they could fit into the available space.

That lip with the orlata trait (magenta colour goes around the lip margins fully) is gorgeous. Contrasts nicely with the porcelain white. Both parents must have been vigorous to produce such a nice heirloom plant that has lasted perhaps over a century.
