So the first of the purpuratas has just opened. Most of the others are nowhere near producing buds. It’s the first time I’ve bloomed this clone and I am not convinced that this is a good flowering. It was recently repotted. It’s a division from Asendorfer.
When this species decides to flower, it really motors. The buds jump out of the sheath and open in double quick time. No hanging around for months on end like some paphs!

I think you are right. As it is a select form, I am sure the flowers will be better next round. At present the segments (esp the lip) look pinched which isn't common in good purpuratas.

Nice group display though!
 
Thanks Leslie that was my thought about the lip as well.
After last years discussions about rot etc I decided to repot some of my plants at the ‘wrong’ time. I was very careful but it may take another growing season for this plant to show its true potential.
