Hardy cymbidiums!

We are on holiday in the extreme south west of England, near St Ives in Cornwall. Down here near the coast is a microclimate where frosts are extremely rare and a variety of exotic species can be grown which are impossible elsewhere. There are palms, cacti and succulents in sheltered spots.
Walking in the George the 5th memorial garden in Hayle, on the side of an estuary, I was surprised to see a cymbidium just planted in the normal garden soil and showing two developing spikes!
it looks like a common or garden hybrid, so not particularly hardy, but down here, who knows?

Obviously, it has bloomed. Wouldn't be wonderful if some seeds actually developed and
formed a colony???!!!!

Pretty neat! It's like visiting the pacific coast of the USA and seeing standard Cymbidiums outside in peoples' gardens.

Granted, I've also seen Cymbidium goeringii growing in protected spots of gardens around here in zone 7b where temperatures sometimes drop to around 0F (-18C).

I dont think it will do well planted in 'dirt'
