I live in the sub-tropics and use an evaporative cooler and misting to help control temperatures. High humidity is fine with good air movement. Use Aluminet shading to control the heat influx.
 
I agree. While evaporative cooling is certainly less effective in a humid environment, they can still work. I visited Terri and Ray Porter's greenhouse in Pasadena, TX, and was amazed to feel cool air coming from a swamp cooler running inside the greenhouse (not through the wall).
