One of my favorite non-orchid plants is the "walking iris" (Neomarica spp.). This one was in bloom in the college greenhouse today. I think the species are South American. The flowers are produced at the end of the strap-like leaves and form adventious roots after the flower wilts. A new plantlet forms and often establishes itself if it contacts a substrate. The flowers only last a day so I ran to get the camera when I saw it. The fragrance is delightful! The greenhouse is having a plant sale as a fundraiser and I'm hoping to acquire a division.

Let me know if you can't get a division. I can possibly get my dad to cut one off his monster plant down in Houston and mail it to you.
