In the heat the plants will put everything into the flowers and "forget" to grow a replacement tuber. If you don't have side shoots, rather cut the flower. The cut flowers can last long enough to mature seed---if you feel inclined to breed it. The seed germinate very easily on wet sphagnum moss.
