I could remove them but haven't yet. Would have to take a bunch of stem with it and stick it in sphagnum because they haven't formed roots yet.

Wonder if its an adaptation for a long stolon to climb up a hill LOL …. I have some plants that did this and I thought it would be a flower bud but instead became leaves (but no roots).
