As I am sure you are aware, I have been looking for longevity option for the forum for some time now.
I received an offer from Group Builder/Cultured Media and have accepted it this week. They reached out to me first back in 2017, but I just wasn’t sure at the time. However, after doing a lot of thinking, and some research, I believe that this transition will be the best for the forum in the long run. I’ve always been concerned about how the data here would continue past my time with the forum. You can read a bit about Group Builder’s history here: http://www.groupbuilder.com.

There are going to be some great technology advances that come with this, which you all know are WAY overdue. I have confidence that the tech folks with Group Builder have the knowledge to get us to an updated, secure place where we are able to view new posts, post photos much more simply, and basically carry on as we have been for the last decade+.

Here is what has been negotiated:

    - I will remain as administrator for now and continue daily operations as usual
    - Dot and Candace have decided to step down as moderators due to lack of time and other priorities
    - Angie who is an Admin for Group Builder will be coming on as an Admin on Slippertalk (she works for Keith.) She will help to handle any technical issues that arise with the transition and will assist with daily moderation as well.
    - The site has been moved off vBulletin and onto Xenforo (created by vBulletin developers)
    - I think we are done with the main transfer at this point.
    - Here is the major change: You will see ads when you first visit the site, however….
    * All current and new members will have the ability to go into their Preferences and opt-out of ads so their view will not be impaired.

So, I personally feel that this will make Slippertalk better and more accessible to the orchid growing community and continue to provide a quality site for the hobby. I know that the ads will be a burr under the saddle for some of you but being able to find a compromise should allow for a positive experience as you’ve all become accustomed to.

I am sure there will be some things to work out. We definitely need to get rid of those Phal icons. ;) Please feel free to ask questions. I think Angie or myself will post a thread shortly to deal with transition issues. I am poking around learning about the new platform too right now...Please be patient and bear with us while we work out the kinks!

You guys and this site mean a lot to me and I have enjoyed the 13 years since John and I started Slippertalk.com, but, as I said, I will not be going away.

Heather you described everything very well. And the little person icon on the top right side is the place to click to get to your User Control Panel. There is are several options there. Choose Preferences and the Opt out is at the bottom. Remember to save.

If you know of anyone that cannot log in for some reason, the Contact Us down at the bottom right corner sends a message to me, so I can help reset a password, or find out what to fix and fix it for them.

And, I am Angie, and I do Admin stuff. I am VERY excited to be on SlipperTalk as I saw the amazing orchid photos and thought I could really enjoy being here. I remember my uncle having a greenhouse and growing orchids (and other flowers) when I was a teen.

When you are making a new post, look down at the bottom right hand corner and you will see the Post Thread/Reply button, the Upload a File button, and More Options.

When you do the upload a file you will go to your albums on your computer or tablet, and you choose one. Let it upload. Have your cursor where you want it to be placed. Then click on Full Size.

Just an example of a rose image I have saved.

Now if you want even more fun, there is the ability to do a copy from somewhere else, and paste directly into a post. This beach photo is from one I had in my FB album.

Private Messages (PM's) are now called conversations in this software. They are shown in via the envelope icon in the top right. It will show little numbers when you get a new "conversation" (I still call them a PM most of the time). You will see all of them, and they don't go to Inbox and Sent. The way to "delete" a conversation is to look at the top of it, and find LEAVE CONVERSATION. That makes it go away for you.

It looks like the "New Posts" and "New Threads" tabs work again!

I was very surprised by the change of appearance this morning, but it sounds like it's for the best.

Are we still going to do the yearly fundraiser auction?

Yes,thank goodness *that* is finally fixed!

I’m hoping we will be able to tweak the appearance a little. Be patient. ;)

This change will mean that an auction is not necessary to keep the forum running any longer. However, once things settle down a bit, I am not opposed to discussing options if members are still interested in participating. We had a pretty serious downturn in participation the last few years.

Angie - is there a way to post an announcement at the top of the page with a link to this thread so people find it? I'm a little concerned that members returning are going to see the ads when they first arrive and freak out before they find the instructions. I looked around in the admin area but haven't found an announcement option yet. Thanks!

    I think those images in particular are due to Tapatalk. If the addon is disable (it is now because they have to move the key into our account to have it work now the site is SSL (https) ... Testing an attached image now;

Very good. New software is so much fun the first few days, then it’s great.
