As I am sure you are aware, I have been looking for longevity option for the forum for some time now. I received an offer from Group Builder/Cultured Media and have accepted it this week. They reached out to me first back in 2017, but I just wasn’t sure at the time. However, after doing a lot of thinking, and some research, I believe that this transition will be the best for the forum in the long run. I’ve always been concerned about how the data here would continue past my time with the forum. You can read a bit about Group Builder’s history here: http://www.groupbuilder.com. There are going to be some great technology advances that come with this, which you all know are WAY overdue. I have confidence that the tech folks with Group Builder have the knowledge to get us to an updated, secure place where we are able to view new posts, post photos much more simply, and basically carry on as we have been for the last decade+. Here is what has been negotiated: - I will remain as administrator for now and continue daily operations as usual - Dot and Candace have decided to step down as moderators due to lack of time and other priorities - Angie who is an Admin for Group Builder will be coming on as an Admin on Slippertalk (she works for Keith.) She will help to handle any technical issues that arise with the transition and will assist with daily moderation as well. - The site has been moved off vBulletin and onto Xenforo (created by vBulletin developers) - I think we are done with the main transfer at this point. - Here is the major change: You will see ads when you first visit the site, however…. * All current and new members will have the ability to go into their Preferences and opt-out of ads so their view will not be impaired. So, I personally feel that this will make Slippertalk better and more accessible to the orchid growing community and continue to provide a quality site for the hobby. I know that the ads will be a burr under the saddle for some of you but being able to find a compromise should allow for a positive experience as you’ve all become accustomed to. I am sure there will be some things to work out. We definitely need to get rid of those Phal icons. Please feel free to ask questions. I think Angie or myself will post a thread shortly to deal with transition issues. I am poking around learning about the new platform too right now...Please be patient and bear with us while we work out the kinks! You guys and this site mean a lot to me and I have enjoyed the 13 years since John and I started Slippertalk.com, but, as I said, I will not be going away.
