Second year with me and a much bigger flower, just over 6 inches across. It’s as big as the plant.
The lovely scent is just starting to develop and a typical for the species.
First photo shows the flower when just opened and the second today after a couple of days to mature.

Yes it’s magnolia x soulangeana ‘rustica rubra’. It’s fantastic value as a garden plant as it flowers for so long. You see a huge flush now in spring and then as each new shoot matures later in the year, the terminal bud is another flower so there are more out from July onwards,

Thank you David. I don't think this is in the Jane group
of magnolias. However, the Janes have the same rebloom
habit and very fragrant. In the nursery fields, they bloom
off and on all summer into fall. I'd love to see the leaves
when out fully.

Culture question: If my catts were potted with the rhyzome this high above the bark, the roots would be all over the place, but not all going down into the mix like yours. What's your secret?
