I had one bulbo which arrived in pure spag and didn't really look too happy. I sat down in front of him and asked why he looked so unhappy. This is what he said: "Please take me out of this soggy stuff, it is even begenning to smell moldy in here. Please, please, please, put me in a different type of medium."
I followed his suggestion. I took him out of the soggy, packed tight, smelly, spag and put him into a combination of my reg CHC mix, which has a lot of sponge rock in it, and I added about 50% Hydroton. He hasn't told me if he likes this better, it is too soon, but he smells better...... and I am happier. Only time will tell how he feels about his new home.
About a month ago I potted his sister, she came bare root, into Hydroton only, not S/H method. She seems quite happy in that. I didn't dare shock the other one directly from wet soggy spag into Hydroton.
Now we will see how each responds the the new medium.
