I was just thinking that my Bulbo. agastor hadn't bloomed in a while............ and then I smelled something:p

In the meantime this Maxillaria variabilis (not a bulbo:wink:)has been in bloom nonstop for well over a year now.

The Max. looks like schunkeana.

The flowers are very similar, but the plant habit is very different. M. schunkeana (endemic to Brazil) produces flowers on individual spikes at the base of the plant. M. variabilis (Mexico and Panama) produces flowers along the chain of bulbs similar too (but much smaller than) M tenufolia.

This is the M. variabilis clone 'Black -eyed Susan' btw.

Agastor is rarely seen...i'm jalous. never found one! great specie.
