I dabble with bonsai, these are both very young plants, not ready yet for any bonsai training. I will grow them out for 5 or so years, then start the serious 'bonsai torture' on them.

Satsuki Azalea cultivar 'Waka Ebisu'

Chaenomeles cultivar 'Iwai Nishiki'
The flower is really a nice deep, true red, rather than the usual scarlet orange-red that is much more common in flowering quince. And the doubled number of petals is an extra nice touch. The flower is not overly large, maybe 3 cm. or 1.25 inches, which is in proportion for use in bonsai. I hope in a few years this whip will develop enough trunk that I can do something with it.

The yard is weedy, overgrown mess, my fear is that building code is going to crackdown on me.

But the several dozen 3 and 5 gallon pots on the bench or tucked here and there look great.

Lovely both- I really like the bloom on the flowering quince. Cool that azaleas and quince can be used in bonsai!
