    A few vandaceous

Bought as ascocentrum miniatum, but I don't think it is.. Looks close to Ascocenda Pralor. Quite compact and free flowering. One of my favourite vandas, Papilionanda Mimi Palmer. Fragrant when the flowers are exposed to sun, just like some Encyclias. Also free-flowering. This has been in...

    Excited :D

.. to get several seedlings of Wossner Favourite (hangianum x leucochilum). This is the first hang hybrid I have ever tried. Any tips /quirks for this cross, if you are growing it? I hope it is heat-tolerant, given the leucochilum parentage. Have them potted in styrofoam, large pumice at the...

    Barbatum #2

    Got it in low spike:

    Leucochilum

Again, the brachy season is out of whack. Some are starting to bloom earlier than usual. This one is not from selected parentage, but pretty flat flower and good size, although not round in form.

    Some catts

Couple of recent purchases NoID, initially thought it was a hybrid of Cattleya walkeriana x violacea, but now a more likely ID is Heathii (loddigesii x walkeriana). Plant stature is small, resembles walkeriana. The entire spike of 4 flowers dwarfs the plant. Brassocattleya Saint...

    Barbatum

Recent purchase, got it in low spike. I find that barbatum with broad leaves held quite horizontally grow better in consistently warm temperature whereas those of a smaller plant stature and more upright leaves (some I got from Cameron Highlands) suffer when grown in the lowlands.

    Callosum

Seems like the season is here. :) This is a plant bred by a nurseryman from Thailand, first bloom for me in indoor apartment conditions. This has the classic tall dorsal, pointy pouch, downswept petals and very tall spike. I find callosum to be heat-tolerant and tolerant to bud blast too...

    Twins

This has been quite slow to develop as I was watering it a bit inconsistently but glad it didn't blast. The spikes are pretty long for bellatulum but droopy if I didn't stake them.

Catyclia Purple Glory (Encyclia nemorale x Cattleya violacea): Catasetum pileatum white: First bloom catasetum hybrid: Renanthera Kalsom, first bloom:

    Leucochilum & Godefroyae

These were in flower for the first time last April. Blooming a bit later this year. Leuco (this one has mottled leaves): Godefroyae 'Choy Pau' (this has plain green leaves):

    Niveum

First-flowering seedling. This one was grown from a stray seedling in one of my bellatulum's pots. Grown slowly but steadily under less than optimum conditions for 3-4 years.

    Papilionanda noID

Saw at a nursery. I suspected this could be Papilionanda Gelora Bandung (Vanda Memoria Fumiko Otomo x Papilionanthe teres). The vanda parent is a hybrid with heavy vanda coerulea influence: Memoria Fumiko Otomo = Onomea x coerulea Onomea = Rothschildiana x sanderiana Rothschildiana =...

    S. Gratrix #2

Second one opened yesterday. May stretch a bit more. This one has more bellatulum-like proportions to the flower. Thai breeding, first bloom.

    S. Gratrix

= bellatulum x godefroyae. Second plant from Thai breeding, first bloom and got it in low bud.

    Another small bella

This species appears to be quite heat-tolerant, the only drawback is prone to rotting upon exposure to heavy rain. It is easy when grown indoors. The ones I have refuse to clump, always 1-2 fans at any one time. I got this one from a friend last month, he is a desert rose (Adenium) grower, and...

    S. Gratrix

New addition from a recent local show on Saturday. These two flowers are from the same pot (got it for a steal), I think they are actually 2 first-bloom seedlings potted together. Not very round, but pretty flat. The rest, all from Thailand This was the priciest of the bunch. I...

    Small bellatulum

A small-flowered one, recent purchase from my friend's nursery. He used to be big on strap-leaf vanda but has shifted his focus onto desert rose (Adenium). The handful of species he has are semi-neglected but appear to thrive quite well. This plant has 3 growths in bloom/sheath although the...

    Lowii

New purchase from recent show. 1 flowering growth, 2 flowered fans and 2 medium-sized new growths. The spike should have 4 flowers but one has dropped. I noticed two different types of plant forms with lowii, one with broader, thicker leaves held more horizontally and one with thinner, narrower...

    Few others at recent show

The main winners. Best local hybrid, phal Samera (bellina x violacea). Best species, a ball of Dendrobium finisterrae (section Latouria): A specimen dend anosmum. Specimen phal fimbriata Forgot the name of this BLC/RLC:

    Few slippers at recent show

Most of these are owned by a couple residing in Cameron Highlands. Some of the Maudiae-types look like recent imports from Taiwan (there's cotton wool stuck to the flowers). lol. One of the grand champions, specimen Vanguard, 2 spikes, 4 flowers to each spike. A large green Maudiae-type...
