    Hola desde Ciudad de México

Hola Cereza.

Dehydrated near rootless P sanderianum seedling

Talk to Ray Barklow. When he started to do semi hydroponics he says that the first orchids he tried it on were paphs. I tend to think that green strap leaf paphs love to have "wet" if not damp roots. I really think it is interesting that you state that the Sanderium is prone to "soft rot?" Now I...

Dehydrated near rootless P sanderianum seedling

Gosh I don't want to say anything that will kill it for good, (so take this with a grain of salt) but I had a Druryi cross which was nearly dead and rootless. When it went downhill, it was an adult and gave one flower spike. Due to terrible sickness and an incompetent care-taker (in 2016), I...

    Hola desde Ciudad de México

This is the message translated: Best regards everyone, it's been a few years since I've seen this wonderful site, but today I finally decided to be part of this amazing community. Recently I have been interested in paphiopedilum from China, Laos and Vietnam. Next week I am going to acquire...

    Phrag Umbriel

I like the subtle color gradations and the floppiness of the humboldtii (or whatever they call that now).

Paph Stonei #1 x Rothschildianum (Red Baron x Mighty)

Really? I got it on Etsy. Just look it up using the name in the title if you want one. It's only a one growth plant right now. I hope it starts putting out new growth. I'm just happy that it is symmetrical, and has nice color. I do not know the requirements for this plant judging wise. Since...

Paph Stonei #1 x Rothschildianum (Red Baron x Mighty)

There are more center stripes on the second flower.

    Phrag dalessandroi

I like the fuzziness. Nice yellow highlights.

Paph Stonei #1 x Rothschildianum (Red Baron x Mighty)

The buds have been developing for several weeks, but I am just showing the finished flower. The flower is very large. I just want to get some new growths on the plant.

    Repotting neglected Paph advice pls

Could they be elongating like that because they are not getting enough light? Repot them, by all means, but I think there is a problem because that is not how paphs look. Perhaps if you get the light right, you will start getting less elongated plants.

    Repotting neglected Paph advice pls

Thanks paphluvr. I had seen the peduncle situation before in trouble shooting type articles, but could not remember what it was called.

    Paph rothschildianum 'JAR'

Beautiful. I have one with 'new horizon' parent too. It is 6 years old and doesn't look like it will be blooming this year.

    Repotting neglected Paph advice pls

Those elongated plants are strange looking. How many plants are there? Yeah it would be a good idea to show photos of the roots. The leaves that are still alive look good. The bottom leaves will die off if they are too wet. How much do you know about orchids? It's possible that it is one plant...

What is your favorite orchid? Lets have some fun

My favorite orchid is the Phragmipedium, they are easy, fast growing and make a huge statement plant. Of the phrags I have owned, I like the QF Leina a’la (Phrag. Conchiferum 'Kay' × Phrag. Incan Treasure) the best. That is a terrific orchid. First was about 1999, I went to an orchid show...

    Sunlight Sky Roths Roths Roths

I agree. In the way is the reputation created to make one plant (Roths) seem so desirable, and that, unfortunately, can be laid at the foot of earlier collectors (as well as recent breeders). They make it seem so desirable, and so expensive that people will tear them from the ground-- die for...

Ray Barkalow’s presentation on ‘Understanding Orchid Nutrition’.

Thanks! You are thinking like a person comfortable with the math. As I said, some of us are not. It would be interesting if this could be translated to "drop per gallon" or something less erudite. That's all I'm saying. My plants are doing well, without all the PPM business.

    Sunlight Sky Roths Roths Roths

I think I am on the side of the purists. I am a rainbowfish enthusiast as well. They are quite rare in their natural range due to gold mining slag in New Guinea. The sites are kept secret, but entire stream ecosystems are killed off by ignorant locals trying to get minerals from the ground...

Ray Barkalow’s presentation on ‘Understanding Orchid Nutrition’.

What I would like Ray or other experts in the chemicals that plant (orchid) growers use, is to downsize it to the understanding/restrictions of simple in-house growers/small time collectors. I hear the word PPM my eyeballs roll backwards and I say, "Oh he means a teaspoon"-- meaning the language...

    Browning Leaf Tips

I am sure you will get lots of answers from very knowledgeable folks. I have/have had this issue too and I am interested to see what kind of advice you get. I chalked it down to "a change" in care, because after a while, it stopped. That doesn't mean there are not leaves that are scarred by it...
