    Leaf markings

A bit off topic in that this is a Cymbidium, but for me this is by far the most expert and knowledgeable orchid forum out there so I’d love your collective opinion anyway. I bought this Cymbidium goeringii a short while ago, and saw these markings on some of the leaves, which otherwise look...

    Young plants blasting

I have had a problem for a while with young plants blasting their buds very early on - when I say young I mean single rosette and first flowering, and the blasting happens very early in bud development. Is this a common observation? I wonder whether this often happens if plants are not very big...

    Rots and temperature change

I have noticed that I see a much increased incidence of brown rots (bacterial or fungal, not quite sure) when the temperature changes. This could be Winter or Spring, or just when we have a very hot spell like the last few weeks here.I think I've seen passing references to this before, but...

    Another Ebay thief warning

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Paphiopedilum-canhii-Hybrid-first-time-offered-/192174785506? Plus other "too good to be true" morsels on Ebay UK (and elsewhere in Europe) right now. This is obviously crap; however, the guy previously (2014) advertised a rare but obtainable Cypripedium, which I...

    Another bud watch

Something a bit unusual, though....can anybody guess the species? https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2829/34304599256_18f334093e_b.jpg

    Phragmipedium klotzscheanum

Hi all, Does anybody know of a source of Phrag klotzscheanum in Europe? Thanks very much for any suggestions, Alex

    Paphiopedilum intaniae

I know there are a few on this forum who grow this one - I remember posts from eggshells and some others about it - so my question if I may is, how are they doing? Is anyone having notable success? I have a couple of plants, and while most of my multis grow pretty well, these put up new leaves...

    Two Paph. species

A couple opening up - P. godefroyae and P. argus. The argus is not quite fully open, I'll take another pic when it is, but nonetheless I like this one a lot. Alex

    Phrag. fischeri

This one has opened, and I like it. I'm told it's from Ecuagenera originally (via Poland). Only an iPhone pic, all I have I'm afraid, but I rather like the level of detail for a phone camera. Cheers, Alex

    Purchases at Malvern IOS show

One for the European members....went along to this today, and there were some lovely plants for sale. I came back with the following two in flower from Asendorfer, as well as a nice little thaianum from Ten Shin. I've included whole plant shots for Eric! P. volonteanum Apologies...

    More ciliolare

Two clones - not very different to my eye. Also, an exciting bud coming up - who can guess/deduce what it is (species)? P.S. iPhone pics only - sorry for quality. Alex

    Leaf tip question

A quick question if I may - with the classic Paph leaf tip burn due to salt accumulation, is it the newest leaf that's preferentially affected, or the oldest ones, or all equally? I have a couple of plants where the tip of, in one, just the newest leaf shows this symptom and in the other...

    What do you think....

....of these leaves. The top two pics show a Phrag sold to me by Ratcliffe as braziliense, and the bottom one is a stonei. The Phrag shows this discolouration which coincides with the stress of arriving here, ore or less. The lower power view shows that the rest of this leaf, and indeed the...

    Paph opening

Nearly open now in the greenhouse...:)

    Paphiopedilum papuanum stagnating

Hi all, I have three of these from Popow about a year ago. Two flowered straight away, very nice, but they have done precisely nothing since. Not grown a single cm of leaf, just one has lost a basal leaf through natural senescence. generally, they look well and they aren't rotting away, just...

    Removing old leaves

A quick and possibly trivial question, please. I have a few Paphs where the brown, senescent basal leaf is clinging on and won't easily pull away, so I have left it in situ. I see that some of these leaves are now developing a white mould, as you might expect dead tissue to do. My question is...

    Propane advantage?

OK, this may be a bit bonkers, but...I've had a few issues with my electricity in the greenhouse recently, so have spent a bit of time heating with just propane rather than my usual electric fans. I could swear that in just the 5 days or so the plants had propane heat, they put on a real growth...

    Paphiopedilum papuanum

I posted one of these a few months ago - here's another, although it is slightly malformed and has a necrotic spot at the bottom of the pouch for some reason. However, as an actual clone it seems to have extremely similar characteristics to the other one. Cheers, Alex

    Paphiopedilum tranlienianum

First flower for me from this Popow plant, although I can see it's flowered before. It's a very nice size and shape, although I wouldn't mind a darker pouch. Alex

    Paphiopedilum papuanum

Finally, the flower has opened. The plant didn't seem bothered by its brief drop to 5C a week or so ago (backup heater now installed), but according to Cribb's Kew monograph they regularly see temperatures of 10C in habitat in any case.
