    Cattleya Susana (C. bicalloi x C. pumila)

All of subgenus Hadrolaelia is prone to sprall, so both parents are contributing. Even with military level potting discipline, they sprall. With free-form growth like this you see the full natural potential.

    A different Red Wing

I would also be interested to see what this plant is up to now. I hadn't seen this thread before, but but my hunch is a doubled triploid = hexaploid.

    SAD, SAD Paph

The Prozac is for you. Then maybe the sad flower won't bother you as much.

Disappointing. Should I be hopeful for the future?

Mangled flower largely because of the short spike not allowing room for expansion. It looks like it has reasonable potential for color and width of petals and other than that you can't judge the flower quality here. Go again for that reason alone and hope for normal spike development. Can...

    Paph Tringiense

You are correct that I did not express my doubts directly. With those leaves Paph barbatum may be a parent, but so could many other species. I don't see much barbatum or roth in the flower. Not with that staminode, the twisted petals or the glossiness. And where did the dorsal spots come from?

    Paph Tringiense

Very interesting. Not the flower I would have expected.

Cattleya aurantiaca - or is it?

The form of the plant and flowers look typical to me, and the flower quality doesn't even look like a highly selected form. To get this close to the species a hybrid would have to be 3/4 or more (probably more), and to what purpose if not flower quality? I would look at flower size compared to...

    2 appletonianum

The one with broader leaves is not appletonianum. Maybe delenatii? The other I could believe is appletonianum.

Ho Chi Minh - To Pinch or Not to Pinch

Removing healthy tissue to "help" the plant is almost always crazy talk. Step away from the Paph.

    Experiment

For anyone trying this, make sure you have agricultural lime or garden lime (mostly calcium carbonate), not quick lime (mostly calcium oxide) or slaked lime (mostly calcium hydroxide). Quick lime or slaked lime will almost certainly injure your plants. Or you probably have a safe alternative...

    Growing more inocucor

Ray's grow-your-own method should give you a useful result, but it might not be very similar to Inocucor. Most often, mixed cultures of microorganisms will not maintain the same ratios or full range of species. Commercial products would usually go back to combining pure cultures in a specific...

    Odd Phrag Millbrook

Damage by thrips or other pests in the bud might show up like this.

    Cattleya labiata peloric

Technically not peloric, since that means that a zygomorphic (bilateral symmetry) flower has become more actinomorphic (radial symmetry). Here the set of sepals have become less similar, so the flower has less radial symmetry, not more. Labelloid is correct for describing the lateral sepals...

    Paphiopedilum Lady Isabel/Lady Isobel

Registration corrections do happen. For years RHS had Bct. Little Mermaid listed as Little Marmaid, until they didn't. Mermaid was correct on the registration paperwork, but got mangled in RHS records.

    Not Paphiopedilum urbanianum?

The staminode looks right for henni, and such strongly reflexed petals would be very surprising in anything else, including henni hybrids. 2 species for the price of 1.

    Encyclia vitellina

Very nice. The small side-lobes suggest to me that this is the hybrid. They are from Prsothechea michuacana. Prosthechea vitellina never has more than a smooth bump there as far as I've seen. Lip color is too variable in both species to be a reliable indicator in a hybrid.

Question about a plant that only wants to proliferate

Paph laevigatum is recognized as a synonym of Paph philippinense. There are some rather compact forms, and some plants can be reluctant to flower. Assuming it gets fairly typical care/conditions and a good fertilizer regularly, if it was my plant I would add eggshell or limestone to the mix...
