    Biting the bullet

SO, not sure if any of you remember me, but I had a small commercial greenhouse here in New Hampshire. Long story short, we were away when a freak early deep freeze, coupled with unknown heater problems, occurred while were were away for a wedding. We lost all the plants in the freeze. We are...

    MSU injectyion Ratio

I was curious about the proper injection ratio For MSU formula and my Dosatron. I have, in the past, used a 1:100 ratio for Dyna-Gro. There was no ratios listed on the label of the MSU. Anyone have any suggestions or preferences on the ratio?

    Sources for Oberonia species

So, while Cattleyas will still be my passion, followed by Phrags., I'm currently infatuated with Oberonia species. I currently have a small collection of 7 species plants, although based on IOSPE, at least one of them may be mis-labeled. I'm also working on a presentation for orchid society...

    Correct term for popowii

I have been corrected on eBay regarding my Phrag. Devil Fire- Grande x popowii. A bidder corrected me saying that I listed the plant with the incorrect parentage. She stated it was Grande x warscewiczianum, according to Orchid Wiz. However, RHS listed the cross as Grande x humboldtii, which...

    To be a true "Nerd"

Don't bother calling yourself a "nerd" or a "geek" unless you've spent time with each of these, the good "Doctors." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnKNupdSH8g&list=FLSrSKEDlffNEIxEWRO3cCZA&index=2 For those of us who remember this movie when it was in the Theaters, all I have to ask is how...

    Oberonia setigera

Just opened some of it's flowers yesterday. I will get out the macro lens and get a picture of the actual flowers soon, but thought I'd post a pic of the plant. At the NHOS special auction there was one of these with 6 spikes, this is younger and only has 2. It will get bigger, if my skills...

    Mss. Orchid Society Show-stopper

There were many great plants at the MOS show this past weekend. Honorable mention goes to a Paph. victoria-regina that many thought was the best they'd ever seen of the species. However, this, in my opinion, was the show-stopper plant. Paph. helenae fma. album. It's even more beautiful in...

This weekend will be the 2012 Mass. Orchid Society Show and Sale at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston MA. It is going to be a great event! I know many of us on the East Coast are recovering from Hurricane Sandy. This show might make a wonderful "escape" from all the damage. If you have...

    Anyone else early?

I've talked with folks from my OS and they agree, things are happening early around here. For example: 1. 2 Paph. malipoense plants are in advanced spike and will bloom December or early January. Normally they bloom for me in March. 2. Many of my complex Paphs are spiking and will bloom early...
