    Revisiting the Phrag. schlimii Complex

Dear friends, Happy new 2018, our best wishes from Colombia! Some people asked me to share our last WOC talk about Phragmipedium schlimii. Please find it in the following link...

    anguloi x besseae = Teson's Gothic Cathedral

First anguloi artificial hybrid, and of course it had to be x bessseae!. This one was made using the flava form of besseae and the anguloi holotype. The ones made using the red form of besseae are also close to bloom. Look at the fenestrations in the pouch! Enviado desde mi SM-J700M mediante...

    Green Hornet growing in "Ecoweb"

We tried to grow some phrags over the "Ecoweb" from Ray and they love it!. This is the cross that we made using a peruvian pearcei and our best longifolium. The plants are pearcei sized and the flowers can last more than 30 days. Enviado desde mi SM-J700M mediante Tapatalk

Phrag Alejandro Teson (pearcei x andreettae)

Named after my older son. I was hoping for for something almost white when I made the cross some years ago. After seeing the results with other andreettae hybrids i realized that the andreettae color was going to be dominant, and I am glad! It is a very compact hybrid and very easy to grow. The...

    Phragmipedium x daguense

As promised: This is the natural hybrid of andreettae and schlimii. Another interesting discovery in Colombia. It grows side by side with andreettae and always self pollinate. It is the one in the right in the 2 first pictures. With schlimii in the first one and with anguloi in the second one...

    Phragmipedium x narinense

Hi friends! I have been quite busy lately and I have not visited this forum frequently. sorry about that! We recently described 2 new natural hybrids from Colombia Phrag x daguense (schlimii x andreettae) and P. x narinense (anguloi x fischeri). Here you have some pictures of the x narinense...

    Mexi germination.

This is my first try and got a very good germination rate. It seems to be quite easy to grow in vitro . The pod was Mexipedium xerophyticum (Windy Hill) x self and I sowed it in the same medium that I am using for seed sowing in Phrags: (P668@1/2 + coconut water + pineapple juice). I will...

    schlimii "Dumbo"

I posted this plant before but I am sure you will enjoy it again. I think that it could be one of our best schlimii so far. NS is 6cm, quite good for schlimii. Previous post and the sad history of this population: http://www.slippertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40519 Enviado desde mi...

    beseae flavum Sami's Choice

It had two spikes but I left only one because the plant is not very strong yet. (It is recovering from a severe erwinia attack two years ago). We put it under a full spectrum led light and it is growing vey fine now. I think that flavum besseae needs lots of light to thrive. NS is 9.6cm. PW is...

    schlimii fma manzurii.

This is one of our schlimii fma manzurii. It is called by Gruß xcolombianum and it was described as a natural hybrid of manzurii and schlimii but I think that it is a yellowish schlimii (a local form from the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia). We started to breed without mixing populations and...

    Manzur La Aldea "Alboflavum"

David Manzur made this cross using his albiflorum clone of the schlimii fma. manzuri with a besseae fma. flavum. It is a charming flower. Enviado desde mi SM-J700M mediante Tapatalk

    Phrag. longifolium fma. gracile

This is the tiny longifolium gracile, it was a gift from a friend and it seems to me quite interesting! I am crossing it with anguloi to make a Sedenii-like hybrid but smaller. Enviado desde mi SM-J700M mediante Tapatalk

    kovachii "Bogotano"

This is a first blooming plant. I think that it is from Alfredo Manrique but I am not sure because I lost the tag . I got from him few tiny plants about 7 years ago and killed most part of them before our move to colder climate. It is not so big (6 inch) but I think that it is going to be a...

The rediscovery of the schlimii albiflorum

It was found in the Central Cordillera of Colombia during the late 1800s. I think that very-very few plants remain in cultivation in Europe, if any at all. It was only rediscovered very recently by a fisherman. It is the palest form of schlimii, very narrow leaves and quite vigorous.

    Branching Fritz Schumburg

I think that the besseae used to make this had some dal. blood on it. Secont time bloom and it decided to branch twice so i hope to see three flowers at the same time. Enviado desde mi SM-J700M mediante Tapatalk

    fischeri "Colombia"

This one is showing a nice red-pink color and very good shape. It is a division from a wild collected plant several years ago. We are using it to refresh the blood of the inbreeded and more tailored ones from OL and Glen D and we have got very good germination rates.

    Ammonium vs Nitrate In Vitro

Dear friends, I would like to understand the Nitrate vs Ammonium absortion in invitro (sterile conditions) where the soil bacteria are absent. Do you have literature about this topic? Can the ammonia be used by the seedlings? Why the source of N is ammonium nitrate in most part of the comercial...
