I am going to receive from a portugueese lady, next week, a spare of this Paphiopedilum, she has it for very long time as Papiopedilum insigne. Could you please tell me if it's so, whitch variety or primary hybrid is?

This clone is in the familly collection for much more than 50 years, so impossible to say where does it came from.

Among all my old Paph.insigne collection, i discovered a giant clone, comparing it with typical ones. As my sister was the responsible for last repotings i could see that some clones were mixed up, as she loves seeing pots full of plants 😂 So, my job this year is to isolate different stable...

We have this mutation for a very long time, for many years. The general growers here don't care about mutations exept for a small group of skiled growers that encoraged me to go on with this idea of registering it as a special cultivar of this species.

This mutation is found among several growers, but as i konw its stable, i am making a sellection growing it appart from the typical forms.

For more than 50 years i've seen in Madeira Island in other People collection and in my self collection this mutation on P. Insigne's labellum, as shown on this picture. Does anny one know it ? If so, do you think it's worthy of being registered and named as a distinguished cultivar ? Thankyou
