I finally bloomed my Phrag. Joyce's Island Sunset!

I've been growing this since 2011...It was a small seedling then. I'm pretty excited to finally see it's bloom!! The colour is darker in person, sorry for my bad photography skills. My hand is in there for a size reference, I love how large the bloom is!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    A question about runts

Do runts ever reach a point where they take off and start growing really well? Or do they always remain slower and weaker? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Paph. Chou-Yi Ruby

This is it's first bloom, and the colour is darker in real life. I bought it with a bud a couple of months ago. I'm kinda surprised that it didn't blast because I discovered it came with mealy bugs so I had to keep treating it (I was super vigilant) and even had to repot it. These hybrids are...

    Bulb. Sri Mega

I've had this for about a year (really getting into bulbo's!) and this is its first time blooming. It has four flowers, so it kinda forms a half circle.

A question about top dressing with dolomitic lime

What do you do with crosses that mix calcicolous and noncalcicolous Paph's? For example Paph. Lynleigh in Pink (Ho Chi Minh x malipoense), would you use less dolomitic lime because of the delenatii in it? Or maybe none at all?

    Paph. Pirate Spice

This picture is from January when the bloom just opened...and the flower is still alive although not as fresh looking.

How do you grow your Phrag. richteri?

I'm keeping mine pretty wet but the leaf tips keep going brown on mine. It was that way when I bought it but all the new growth since I've got it has done the same thing. It's my only Phrag that I have that problem with. Should I keep a little water in the saucer?

What do you look for when selecting a seedling?

If you have your pick of seedlings and you're only choosing one, what do you look for? Is it the biggest one? Or is it the colour of the leaves? Intensity or clarity of pattern (on mottled leaves)? What about colour at the base of the leaf, do you look for darker shades?

What steals your heart because of its leaves?

Which Paph do you think has the most beautiful leaves? It doesn't matter if it's a species or hybrid. Pictures would be nice too. ;)

    Bulbophyllum sicyobulbon

This is my first Bulbo to bloom. It's not really my taste (a freebie) but I kind of like it. It has a nice sweet fragrance too.

If you are using R/O water do you add any fertilizer over winter?

I have read that you shouldn't use fertilizer when your plant is not in active growth. But does that apply to R/O water too?

    Phal. Pingtung Gold

Smell delicious...like sweet clovers mixed with citrus! :)

    A question for windowsill growers

Okay, maybe two questions...what do you have your Paphs potted in (medium & type of pot) and how often do you water?

    Bulbophyllum "Smells"...

Can you help me out by listing the "fragrances" of the Bulbophyllums you know? I am hoping to add more Bulbo's to my collection but because I grow my orchids in my livingroom I would like to avoid any that are smelly! The only one that I have taken a whiff of myself is cocoinum...smells like...

Do you think this is Bulbophyllum longiflorum?

My son fell in love with this one at an orchid show and of course I failed to take a picture of the tag! :(
