Miltoniopsis Evergreen 'Premiere' . From Seattle Orchids.

This one gets better with each blooming. I think I'll have to divide it this year, though. Sorry about the photo; it looks so much better on my phone.

    Paph. micranthum in sheath

My micranthum is in sheath. There is a slight swelling at the base, which doesn't seem to be getting larger. Is there anything special that should be done at this point? I'm assuming it's good to go with normal light, temps and water. Thanks.

    Phal. schilleriana sulking

I think I remember that these can sulk for a long time. I wonder what the record is. I've had one that's been surviving and growing roots since 2015 with one small 3" healthy leaf. I remember because that's when I moved from NYC up to my house and I rescued it from extremely substandard...

    Paph volunteanum (blooming this time)

It finally happened. Stem length from top of pot, not including sheath or ovary: 26-3/4"; Flower width: 3.5"; height: 3". I don't know how the flower "rates". I appreciated that it has good natural posture on the stem. It's very pretty in my collection!

    Paph. volonteanum

    25" and counting. 🤔

    They're coming.... my first flask.

I am hard-headed, having been warned seriously against these as my first flask. One of Sam's tigrinum crosses. I would appreciate all the help I can get. 🙂

Prince Edward of York (sanderianum 'Lady in Red' x rothschildianum 'New Horizon' FCC/AOS)

This one is a recent addition (12/10/20) from Sam and my first paph. of any sort from this particular "Section." It (obviously!) was blooming size, but I still had no idea that it was going to spike any time soon. It deserves better pictures, but I couldn't resist some initial shots.

    Sedirea japonica

Has anyone had a problem giving this species just the right amount of light? If my japonica was an actual child, it would be in therapy for life. Mine has three different sizes of leaves on it. Long and well-shaped (before I got it), short and fat, and long and slender. In terms of growing...

    LIght Orientation

My Prince Edward of York has begun to bloom. Single growth, three flowers. Very exciting for me. However, it is apparent that the pouch on the first flower is malformed, sort've cast off to the side. The second flower looks normal, and the third isn't open enough to tell. The only thing I...

Ho Chi Minh - To Pinch or Not to Pinch

I have a fairly recently acquired Ho Chi Minh. The mother plant had bloomed and had started two new growths when it arrived. The growths are different sizes. A larger one and a significantly smaller one. I'm wondering if I nip off the smaller growth if the larger growth will mature more...

    Miltoniopsis Evergreen Premier

Beginning our second year together. Three nice spikes but this is only one, casual snapshot.

    PEOY Spike: Is this normal?

I expected the spike to continue straight up for awhile. The all of a sudden it took a left turn. Should I stake the stem straight? The stem isn't at all weak. Maybe it's just the sheath that's doing most of the turning and the stem will continue more or less straight? New territory for me...

    PEOY Spike

This is a sight that I have never seen anywhere, certainly not in real life. And I sure didn't expect to see anything like it on my own plant a few weeks after it arrived. Dang! It could just stop there for awhile and I'd be fine with that.

    More Lipstick

I couldn't resist. Flowers have reached full stretch now, and I tried a little final arranging.

    Lowii aureum - another concern.

This is the same one I recently bought after Leslie posted pictures of his 'Mango'. A few problems have been dealt with and the main growth is progressing well enough. Unfortunately a short new growth that had started before it arrived (about 4-5") seems stuck. I wasn't sure it whether it was...

    Blc. Travelling Star 'Lipstick'

From Silva Orchids, Deep Cut Show 2019. Four flowers this year, best blooming yet. Will have a nice fragrance in a few days.

    My First Fairieanum

I have no idea how this is going to turn out, but it's going to have to be a real lemon for me not to love it.

    Prince Edward of York

I was shocked yesterday morning to see that my PEOY is spiking. I've only had this plant for about a month. Bought it from Sam - my first order from him, along with a couple of other multi-florals. Well, he said it was BS so I figured a couple of years and I might see a spike. I've never...

    Water Quality

With the recent uptick in my orchid numbers, I'm using more water, which means more trips to the store to buy it, and more shlepping of gallons and gallons of water into the house. My unsoftened well-water will practically take the skin off your hide, and a few years ago I noticed a Phal...

    Mealybugs

I've managed to further complicate the progress of my Paph. lowii aureum by using a too-strong alcohol solution for mealy bug, with which it arrived. The mature growth has an emerging new leaf which I burned badly trying to reach all mealy bugs. The visible burn doesn't extend down into the...
