Native Orchid - Crane's Fly Orchid

Dido, I'm not surprised that you are still waiting to see yours bloom...my observation of wild colonies is that only about 10 percent of the plants seen in the winter time will bloom in the summer. You can read more about this species on my website...

    Any golfers?

Feh...I despise golf courses...they are responsible for huge numbers of native orchid deaths in Florida as more and more swamp and hammock gets cleared so some tom-fool can yell 'fore!'. Not to mention the eutrophication and general poisoning of nearby waterways from all the fertilizers...

New blog entry - Cranefly Orchid (Tipularia discolor)

I've been interested in orchids since I was 13-14. I became interested in native orchids around 14-15. So, that gives me just over a quarter century being a native orchid enthusiast. The fact that we had woods surrounding our neighborhood helped foster this interest...I found eight species...

New blog entry - Cranefly Orchid (Tipularia discolor)

Just booked a trip to Orlando, FL

We have encountered very few bugs at Corkscrew Swamp, aside from some butterflies and skipper moths. Even the mosquitoes, which you would expect to find in droves, are almost non-existent. It's really weird that way. ---Prem
