Problem with Phrag QF Angel Wings

Definitely needs to be repotted lowering it so the rhizome is in contact with or slightly below the leca. New phrag roots don't like to travel through open air to reach the substrate. If you can test the ppm and pH of the reservoir water that may tell you a lot about the leaves problems. If you...

Problem with Phrag QF Angel Wings

Test the TDS /PPM of the root zone substrate for high salt content.

    Question on pH and KH.

Ray, after doubling the dose how soon do you see a positive results? I'm curious how quickly you see the plants react.

    Semi-Hydroponic (S/H) Setups

It's not to late to increase the humidity. The plants leaves look ok. Increase the humidity to keep the leaves healthy. Put some sphagnum moss around the plants over the pots surface to encourage new roots. It only takes a few weeks for the new roots to appear. Mist the plants and moss...

    Semi-Hydroponic (S/H) Setups

How long have they been out of flask? what ppm is your fertilizer solution? I don't apply fertilizer until I see active new root growth. What is the air humidity? Until they recover I would reduce the amount of light.

    Paphiopedilum King Arthur. I think.

Exactly what I remember King Arthur looked like.

    Phrag Yelva Myhre progeny question

I've tried to use triploids with zero success. A few times seed capsules developed and matured but with no seed produced. I understand some cym breeders have had success using triploids but the results were not good and just continued the dead end line.

    Phrag Yelva Myhre progeny question

Alfredo Manrique made the cross Yelva Myhre about 12 years ago. He allowed Bjorn to register it as he was the first to flower it. You don't see many crosses with it because the Rosalie Dexler parent was a 4n tetraploid. So Yelva Myhre is a sterile 3n triploid.

plant import permits freak me out

That is a failure by DHL. Because the acted as your custom's broker they should have asked for your SS number before the shipment even arrived.

plant import permits freak me out

It's normal. Importing requires your tax id in case there is duty (tax) determined to be due on the value.

A question about Phrag. Hanne Popow

I asked Alfredo how he feels schlimii affects the temperature tolerance of his hybrids with besseae and kovachii. The results add warmth tolerance on the high end but doesn't really affect the low end. Temperature down to 50° is not damaging but growth slows.

A question about Phrag. Hanne Popow

What is your night time humidity when it's down to 50°?

Kman how many hours per night does your temperature remain at 50°?

A question about Phrag. Hanne Popow

I think the altitude data may be misleading. I've seen schlimii growing next to kovachii and besseae in Lima at Alfredo Manrique's nursery. In Santa Barbara at SBOE they have schlimii growing in their unheated outdoor space where the winter temperature can get below freezing for short periods...

    Light level for flasks

I don't have a picture showing the paper towels. If the leaves are hard and strong enough I just lay the towels directly on the leaves. If the leaves a long and soft I put a few props the support them. The purpose of the paper towels is to reduce light and hold humidity around the plants and...

    Light level for flasks

70° sounds good. That's in the range the lab probably keep the flasks. Humidity is the most important element for survival of the newborn flasklings. They developed in a glass womb protected from dehydration by the container's 100% humidity. In my experience keeping the seedlings wet by misting...

    Light level for flasks

After deflasking I water them in real well. Then cover them with a layer of moist paper towels. I keep the paper towels moist by misting for a couple days. If the ambient humidity is high enough, 80% or higher I'll skip the paper towel use and mist the plants directly.

    Basalt Rock dust

It would only be a benefit if the minerals were in a soluble form, which I doubt. The only minerals present that are not included in basic fertilizers are silica, aluminum and sodium. The silica dust is basically sand. Excess aluminum and sodium both are problematic in plant growth.

    These are thrips, aren't they.

Use a magnifying glass to verify you still have an infestation. Alcohol in a speay bottle once a week is probably enough. But if you don't see complete control relatively soon best to use a pesticide. The alcohol should buy you time to decide if you need to use a pesticide. If you want to learn...
