    Some windowsil Catts in flower

A peak of 500 PPFD, assuming standard rise and fall of sunlight as in nature, equates to steady PPFD of 250 under LED lights, which is acceptable, but not high, for Cattleyas. You are getting good light.

Learning the range of the cross is making it quicker and easier to decide what to keep. Nice work.

I think the sib cross and a selfing cross make good sense.

    Fairreanum hybrid name search

Orchid Roots says that (Somers Isles x Alma Gavaert) is Arc-en-Ciel, registered in 2010. There don't appear to be any registered offspring of Arc-en-Ciel registered.

It is difficult to get the best genes for shape, size, and color to come together. #12 has excellent shape and color.

    Difficulties locating AzaMax- substitutes?

Thanks for the recommendation on the magnifier. It will be better than mine. I think I am helped somewhat by seldom getting a new plant and never having an orchid outside. However, I need to be on guard and have the treatment solutions available.

    Difficulties locating AzaMax- substitutes?

Pete and Deborah, as indoor growers like I am, what are the ways in which insects have gotten in to your plants?

    Difficulties locating AzaMax- substitutes?

Deborah, you have acquired excellent knowledge about multiple important pests. I suspect that you have this nicely written down and not just in your head?

David, what is the number of plants that made it to this stage?

    Phrag. schlimm - fischeri

This is a picture of a flower from my plant, which comes from a long line of self and sibling crosses using the plant originally identified and then scientifically registered as Phragmipedium fischeri by Orchids Limited (good friends of mine). Scientific studies have been an important part of...

Evaporative Cooler for Basement Grow room

Your interview was fantastic. For me, the process is the main attraction. The flowers tell you whether the process was good. As a physician, I think of it as a biology experiment more than creating art. Doing it the right way (the way you are doing it) is still expensive and time consuming, so...

Cattleya Fabia (1894) or Cattleya Eva’s Fábula en Tus Ojos? The difference of an aurea.

Thanks, William. I am sure there are, or will be, other examples of this mostly silly differentiation within dowiana.

Cattleya warscewiczii alba (‘Firmin Lambeau’ FCC/RHS x ‘Kathleen’ AM/AOS)

I am OK with plants in 7 inch pots but I decided that 9 inch pots were too large for me. I also don’t like excessively tall plants because they create issues with my LED lights. If I had a whole group of tall plants they could occupy one growing area with the lights the correct heights for them...

Cattleya Fabia (1894) or Cattleya Eva’s Fábula en Tus Ojos? The difference of an aurea.

Here is the first flowering from my plant out of the cross (labiata (albo-oculata) x dowiana var. aurea ‘Jerry’s Best’) made by Orchids Limited. The flowering lead had a prominent double sheath, typical of labiata. The inflorescence has three flowers, the largest of which has a natural width...

Cattleya warscewiczii alba (‘Firmin Lambeau’ FCC/RHS x ‘Kathleen’ AM/AOS)

Thanks, Deborah. Unfortunately, my flowers on this cross have never come close to Firmin Lambeau or Kathleen in size or configuration. It also was not a good grower. I decided that I wanted to limit my very tall Cattleyas as well. So, it is gone. I have only one warscewiczii left (a lavender)...

David, I think you know that this is better than the most recent AOS FCC award for a Fritz Schomburg.
