An attempt at album Phragmipedium— Professor Braem x longifolium frma album

8 month update: the three pale plantlets have begun to color up. Watching and waiting to see if the leaves color up entirely or if the chlorophyll is restricted to the centers of the leaves. There are some regular green plantlets nearby for comparison

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum ‘New Horizon’ x ‘Raptor’

I can see the value in only breeding plants that are the best of the best, as it fits in the context of running a plant company whose interest is making marginal improvements generation over generation, as well as getting a return on investment. Orchids take a lot of time, space, and labor to...

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum ‘New Horizon’ x ‘Raptor’

I’ve grown this plant for 2.5 years now and it decided to reward me for my efforts with two buds on one compact growth. One flower is open now and while it’s a small one the pouch is dark, petals horizontal, and dorsal sepal fairly wide. I’m happy with it and currently debating snipping the...

    eBay Vendor Question

How’s your flask doing? I also got a flask of CA912 and the largest of the group is spiking now for me.

An attempt at album Phragmipedium— Professor Braem x longifolium frma album

I have a few plants in mind. I’m growing out a flask of Chuck Acker’s white breeding (Acker’s Northstar x La Aldea Tersura) and a remake of his Acker’s Northstar. I probably won’t see flowers for another year or so though I also have a white blooming Margo’s Pinky that Marilyn LeDoux was...

    mexipedium hybrids?

Reviving this thread after seeing Marilyn’s Mexipedium in bloom at her greenhouse (my first time seeing one in person!) and chatting about the possibility of hybrids with Phrags— has there been any progress made on this? I know using 4N plants is an idea that has been tossed around, but as far...

Would love to see someone document the development of kovachii seedpods and protocorms on this forum!

I only have a small handful so I’ll keep these close. The parent plants are in sheath though, so I’ll remake the cross and see if I get better germination next year!

6 month update. These are hard to photograph because of the condensation on the walls, but here they are! I count 8 (9?) seedlings total. The first to germinate are the biggest, located in the middle of the agar. The three of them are all pushing new pale leaves while having green closer to...

Paph. Quantum Light—alba x Saint Swithin (half album)

Another attempt at alba multifloral hybrids. This time it’s an alba Brachypetalum hybrid as the pod parent pollinated with my Saint Swithin with philippinense alba as a parent. Pollination happened 10/13/22, pod was harvested May 2023 and sown 6/1/23. I saw germination mid-July, then I...

Paph philippinense var palawanense frma album x self

Picked this seedling up at the Illinois Orchid Society show at the Chicago Botanic Garden. I’ve never heard of the clonal name ‘Tildy Babuska’, and a google search couldn’t get me any results either. Is anyone familiar with this plant? The tag also seems to have some info identifying the flask...

Drying and epoxying slippers - any advice?

could one coat with epoxy, paint to match the color as it was in real life, then epoxy again? i would be so worried painting a dried flower and breaking off a petal. was hoping that first layer of epoxy would give it some structural integrity

    The perfect paph

i’m currently fixated on all the different ways one could hybridize albino Paph species to produce a big, white multifloral hybrid, with a wide dorsal sepal. i’ve also started getting interested in big vinicolor multiflorals, too. a display with a black Paph opposite to a white Paph would be neat
