    paphiopedilum hermanii album . Question

Even if Paph hermanii is shown conclusively to be a natural hybrid of helenae and hirsutissimum, you cannot make the natural hybrid x hermanii by crossing the two species in cultivation. If you do cross helenae and hisutissimum in cultivation, you have made an artificial hybrid. I believe the...

    Pollinia exchange

No, I wasn't a hugger before the pandemic. How about a polite wave from across the room?

    paphiopedilum hermanii album . Question

It sounds like hermanii is a stable population in the wild - whether of natural hybrid origin or not. Since hermanii is reproducing within its own population, there's always a chance that an albino can appear. This would happen due to genetic mutations in a plant that disable the anthocyanin...

    paphiopedilum hermanii album . Question

Hello, Sorry, but you would get an artificial hybrid if you made that cross. The only way to get a true hermanii album would be to find one in the wild. Or in very rare cases, albino versions of species can appear in artificial propagation of a species. --Stephen

    Paph. tigrinum

#2 has bloomed! Not quite as nice as #1, but still lovely. And #3 seems to be in very low spike. So good news all around. Probably only going to keep 1 or 2 when all is said and done, but it's good to have choices. --Stephen

Need some help identifying Cyp. reginae

Hi Everyone, I recently took a drive to West Virginia to check out a spot I'd been told had Cyp. reginae growing in the wild. I think I found the plants, but no buds or blooms. Maybe. Can anyone with experience with this species confirm either way if these are Cyp. reginae? And if so, was I...

Can humidity levels be too high?

Yes, because the humidity in the cabinet in the summer will stay above 85% all the time, reducing it with fans to 70% means there will be no diurnal variation. I supposed I could see if there is a more advanced controller for the fans that incorporates a timer. But I don't think I'm at that...

Can humidity levels be too high?

I am convinced to keep humidity well below 100% and to keep up good air flow! So far it's working:

Extra medium size charcoal - for shipping

Hi all, I decided to see if I liked using medium sized charcoal in my slipper mix. I do not (too coarse). I bought a cubic foot of it from Kelley's Korner. I do not want it. If someone else in the US would like it, you can have it for the cost of shipping. It's about 25 pounds sent by UPS...

Can humidity levels be too high?

8 watts. This one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009OWVUJ0/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_rZg2EbHQDZ49A I need something quiet since the cabinet is in the dining room.

Can humidity levels be too high?

Hi all, I installed two exhaust fans in the cabinet hooked up to a humidity controller. Right now it's set to 70% +/- 5%. I'll see how that does for a while. I did get AC infinity fans. I've been using a pair of them inside the cabinet since I built it last fall and they've worked great. I...

Can humidity levels be too high?

Thanks! I'll compare this against my temp readings and see what I get. No, what's that? Unfortunately, I can't get very high air movement in my cabinet without turning it into a mini tornado. I think I'll err on the side of a bit lower than possible. Luckily, I've got a WiFi...

Wanted Paph. Angel Hair, PEOY, Michael Koop

Have you tried emailing Sam at Orchid Inn? He's got a fair amount of inventory he doesn't list on his site and grows quite a few multifloral hybrids.

Can humidity levels be too high?

Hmm so what would ideal humidity be? 80%? Yes, I can add vent fans. I just bought a pair along with a humidity sensor switch from Amazon. I just need to know what humidity range is ideal...

Can humidity levels be too high?

Hi all, Turns out my new orchid cabinet is working better than anticipated at keeping humidity levels up. They're staying at 90-95% throughout the day and night. I never thought as an indoor grower I'd have to ask this, but is my humidity too high? I've got a wide range of Paphs and Phrags...

    Paph. tigrinum

The flower is leaning forward, so it's making the plant look a lot smaller than it really is.

It's got a small new growth. You can just see it in the second pic popping up behind the newest leaf in the first growth.
