I have had this quite a few times with different Phrags, including kovachii seedlings. I've never had any fatalities from it.
J. P. Faust told me this:
"At first I thought it was a lack of Nitrogen and put a little bit more fertilizer, it was wrong and worst…
Than I look at the pH and it was...
Nice one! Great save too. I'm pretty sure it's just the next flower on the spike. The flower is quite large for the size of the plant and has great colour.
You can store the pollen in the fridge for quite a while, by the way. I leave it on the toothpick, wrap it in plastic wrap, then tinfoil. It's been good for several months post flowering.
Nice one! I hope your cross takes.
I made the same cross a few years ago with PCA from Glen Decker and it was very fertile. None of the seedlings have flowered yet though.
That's gorgeous!! I hope it's fertile.
Maybe you have a lot of 3N plants. I have at least an 80% success rate with pollinating Phrags but I try hard to avoid buying 3N plants.
I bought 4 of them from Ecuagenera when I saw the pictures taken by Valenzino. He posted a link in a previous post first 7 pictures:

Looks like heaven!
The colour is pretty close. It might be shifted a bit towards the blue, but the intensity is very close. There is an LED light on the next plant stand that could account for the blue shift. There is a bit backlighting.
I took this with my iphone. I'm pretty happy with the photo. The colour is...
That's a beauty! It's quite different than the others I've seen. I love the intense colour and sheen. The shape is quite plaeasing also. What's the NS?
