    Epidendrum ciliare

Not sure why, but this is one of my favorites as well, despite having grown hundreds of species and hybrids over the past 50+ years. In the 1970s I spent some time on the island of Montserrat. The higher elevations on the road linking the airport and the capital, Plymouth were bordered with...

    Recommendations for Flasking Service?

I have the same query, but for the EU. Any recommendations for a reliable flasking service here?

    Best apps/methods for inventorying/tracking collection

I use Google Spreadsheets because I'm accustomed to them, but if an open source app comes along I might give it a go. I research many other types of plants beyond orchids, most of them planted out in trials for food forests, and land recovery projects, so there's quite a few data I want to...

    Hi from Spain!. My setup

Welcome from Alicante. I grow most of my orchids outside on a terrace all year. The Paphs and Phrags come indoors for just the few coldest months. If the night temperatures are forecast to drop below 1c, I cover with frost cloth. If less than 0c, I panic and bring most of them into the unheated...

Where do we go with legal imports?

There are even problems with shipping here within Europe! Parcels are routinely lost be all the main carriers in Spain. Tracking numbers are relevant only within country of origin, and often don't get updated by the receiving dispatch centers. I agree with the de-globalisation predictions...

    Miscellaneous stuff

Tipularia is a winter-growing orchid. Even when covered in snow, the leaves remain healthy. It goes dormant in the summer. They prefer summer shade, acid soil, and cool temperatures. I've often seen them while hiking in the Appalachian mountains

    Orchids 2023

I used to pipe jazz into my greenhouse. It seemed appropriate for such highly evolved plants.

    slugs in my greenhouse

No doubt, given that cigarette butts that find their way into puddles and streams, and the ocean are known killers. I like the recycling idea as slug killers or repellents. I'd worry however about tobacco mosaic virus getting into the greenhouse ecosystem.

    Identification of indigenous wild flower

It's one of the few orchid escapees. Not really invasive, but 'from away' in the US. Very common in Europe.
