First to blooom for me this year at 40ºN in central Ohio. I've had it a few years and so far bloomed each year. Flower almost 4" across on a 10" tall plant. Grown in a plastic pot sunk into a raised bed outside, beside the greenhouse.

One of the better roths I've seen; the most important thing is the petals stance is almost horizontal. I personally would not even award most of the roths more recently awarded; they've had decades to breed for horizinbtal petals and have ignored it completely. The hang-down look of motst roths...

So glad this turned out to be delenatii album; somehow it had lost its tag and since I couldn't find my delenatii album and the foliage looked appropriate I had tentatively put that name in the pot. A nice one, at that!

How long has that flower been open? I see none of the usual twisting in the petals.

This has been 'in spike' since July and opened at the end of February, not an uncommon thing for the species. Large and well-colored and marked. I only wish it were a more robust grower. It has remained a one-growth plant for years, though it has bloomed every other year or so, and I am hoping...

I try to keep the cool area in the mid to lower 50sF at night and it's usually 65-70F during the day.

I water thoroughly with water running out the bottom every time. I'm not worried about it being overwet; it gets plenty of air and drainage being in a basket. I don't water if it seems really wet; but usually it dries enough pretty quickly; with 40+ growths it can use up quite a bit of water.

Finally got the purplish venustum I've been looking for. Took a bit over a year to bloom it, but well worth the wait to me!

Box them in by a window. All your cool growers. Build a wardian case open to and sealed to the wall around a window. Add a couple of vents to open to allow room air in in the evnet it gets _too_ cold.

I have a couple chysis in bud/bloom now, though it is a bit early. They are not consistent bloomers for me - except the bractescens coerulea (though ist is more floriferous some years than others). They supposedly have a drier winter, but I have found no correlation between winter moisture...
