    Vietnamense

Still nice! The petal shape will vary a bit from year to year. I have found it is best not to over-water these, even when they are in bud. Too much water has a bad effect on the flower development. They should be at least dry on the surface before re-watering. They also dislike too frequent...

    Paph. Yi-Yang Santa Claus

You won't find anything detailed on the internet about P. curtisii and its flowering characteristics: this is drawn from my personal experience over the years. Most single-flowered paphs should not be allowed to bloom too long on their first flowering. That is also true of the Cochlopetalum...

    Paph. Yi-Yang Santa Claus

I notice the influence of Paph. curtisii in this hybrid. Having checked its parentage, there is supposed to be only 3% P. curtisii in it but the influence on the flower shape and size is obvious. A word of warning: P. curtisii makes a large flower and it lasts very long. Unfortunately, the...

Could this be Paphiopedilum Bel Royal?

It is a close match for some internet posted photos of Bel Royal I have seen so the name is probably right. It's a good one, too!

Cattleya lawrenceana concolor ('Jeffy's' x self)

Must be! My $250 C. lawrenceana coerulea just slowly dried up and died without ever attempting a root!

Cattleya lawrenceana concolor ('Jeffy's' x self)

Yes, the South American Spring is our Fall. The problem with that idea (only ordering for pick-up in the Fall) is that the orchids are not all on the same schedule. Many plants are, but quite a few are not. Recently at an early November sale I found C. quadricolor, C. Manuel Moran and C...

Cattleya lawrenceana concolor ('Jeffy's' x self)

The main reason why C. lawrenceana is considered difficult to grow is not the warm night temperature: it's shipping the plants bare-root! Most such plants arrive with the roots all dead and, most often, the plants don't re-root, i.e., they die as a result of being shipped. I am happy to say I...

Cattleya Adrienne de Wavrin (coerulea): maxima 'True Blue' x warscewiczii 'Fernbrook'

It's not a "throw-away," it's just not an award quality plant. If you like coeruleas, the colour and the lip are both good. Many species Cattleyas don't have good form: look at most C. dowianas!

    Paph. Michael Koopowitz in bloom!

Yes! The petals are so long it isn't easy to get a good photo and orchids are always better in 3D and in person. I will try to take a better picture now that all four flowers are well opened.

    Paph. Michael Koopowitz in bloom!

Here's two more. The fourth flower is still developing.

    Paph. Michael Koopowitz in bloom!

    Yes! Wednesday night.

    Cattleya mendelii semialba "Aniko"

Looks like it's semi-alba and coerulea, too!
