How to Bring my Paphs. through a Vacation

The last time I was on vacation I let some water run into my bathtub and put the plug in. Then I put the Paphs in. When I came back 14 days later they all had an enormous amount of stem roots (they previously been on the windowsill) but the water had already run off or evaporated. Nevertheless...

    Growing Area

When I see pictures like this I always ask myself: do you water over the floor or how does it work? 🤔

    paph thaianum

@tmoney The pouch is much more flexible if you have placed both "flaps" behind the stamp. Its more difficult than the simple way of cutting off the pouch - but it looks much better especially because the flower stays on for quite a while before it withers on its own if the pollination was...

    paph thaianum

I pull flap A backwards, then flap B and then apply the pollen with a toothpick by rubbing it on the stamp. Then push both flaps back again. Isn't that how it is described in the manual? 😄 Flaps A and B are the two strips located between the stamp and staminodium and belong to the pouch. So far...

    Paphiopedilum richardianum

I know photos where the color saturation for Paph flowers has been turned up. Here it looks similar... 🫣 I can't help but also the green of the leaves has this intense unnatural 'coloration'.

    paph thaianum

I always leave the pouch on when pollinating. No problems so far.

    paph. liemianum

The petals are oriented towards the light as are other parts of the flower. But of course only at the beginning when the buds open. With Paphs it can take 1-2 weeks until they are "ready". I experienced the same thing with my P. lowii and installed an extra lamp for testing...

    How orchids are produced

You would like to get feedback so here we are: Thank you for the article, very detailed. But I think it would have been better here in "Slipper orchid culture" with a less generalized article about all possible orchids on the world. It would also have been more interesting to read about the...

Popow sells other people's plants as his own?

I want to get something off my chest but I don't know what category it belongs in. I hope it's okay but I'm kind of disappointed by my observation. I recently bought a Paph. sanderianum from 'Großräschener Orchideen', this one...

    Help for Paph. sangii

I never use fungicides in my culture, I have never had any need for them. Have only used the fungicide on the rockwool as it was generally recommended to me for first-use preparation. The plant stands in a glass vase with a lid that is open a crack. In my experience fungal diseases and insect...

    Help for Paph. sangii

Update 2024-04-20 (9th day) Update 2024-04-23 (13th day) I now water with Peters 20-20-20+Ca+Mg, pH of 5.8 and EC of 270 µS (to preserve the roots). Added urea as supplement. Also foliar spray once a week. The micronutrients are reduced due to underdosing the fertilizer to reach only 270...

    Repotting every year?

I find these two articles interesting in this regard as they show the necessity of repotting, depending on how much and how often you fertilize and the quality of the water used: 1. https://www.paphs.de/en/culture/theory-and-practice-part-1 2...

    Paphiopedilum canhii

Don't want to hijack your thread but I find it interesting how much the flowers can differ. Perhaps this is also due to the fact that there are many different wild plants in circulation and therefore the diversity is much greater than with decades of selfing genetically similar plants in vitro.

Brown Spots on Paph. Roth leaves! Please help!

As BrucherT wrote about blech solution: I also soak the pot (without plant/substrate) in a ~10-20% solution of sodium hypochlorite. In Germany the product is called "Danklorix" (from the supermarket) for 15 minutes. It is household bleach without any other additives (no fragrances). Incidentally...

Brown spot on stem of Phrag Kovachii

I've been looking for a long time now but I don't see any brown spots...🤔 The roots can't be that great because I can see a "drying out" on the leaves on the trunk. Other than that I don't notice anything else.
