Three of the helenae that have bloomed out for me so far this season. All kinda meh but one that stands out to me.

I don't think I've seen a helenae that I didn't like. Some are
more colorful than others, but all are quite lovely and have
an appeal all their own. You seem to bloom them much
better than I do. Any specific recommendations on
culture? I can't quite see what the plants are growing in. Are they
in coir baskets?

Yes. This species does well in a well draining mix and pot. Then again I keep my RH really high.

All in all, helenae is pretty easy for me but I realize that my norn is not everyones norm.

Mine are in well draining Orchiata in clay pots so I'm intrigued with the coir baskets. Did you buy a sheet and
make your own baskets or line a wood basket with coir?
The three I have are growing well, but haven't offered to
bloom this year.

I was able to buy the coir as pots. They seem to be sporadically available at my local supply house so when I see them, I buy the lot. Paphs do really well in them. Also trying to change all my species Paphs to baskets or if they are small plants to coir.

Tyler, I think you've found a great idea with the coir baskets, but I've never seen them for sale anywhere. I
keep long-fibered coco on hand and can line wood baskets
which will hold some Orchiata and hydroton. Do you think that might do as well?

*I still love that photo of your big-nosed Buddy. That avatar makes me smile every time I see it.

Thanks! Diego is my best buddy, but I think that he is starting to like my 3 yo daughter more.....

I use coir sheets to line baskets or long strand NZSM, but ultimately coir is better.

And here is a source for coir pots

Thank you so much for the amazon site. I knew that hard
pressed ones existed, but not the sheet coir in a pot shape.

Seems like daughter and dog have a good hold on who's
got who. Lovely to see and she will grow up a more loving and compassionate person having shared her
young life with a dog. Gooood daddy.
