Gorgeous and very well grown/bloomed!!! Dot, it is not Phal. x leucorrhoda. It is Phal. philippinensis....a species. Back in the early 90's, there was a bunch of these that came in from Holland labelled as "Phal. leucorrhoda". Everybody got one and thought that this is what x leucorrhoda looks like. NOT! Phal. leucorrhoda does not have the strong yellow side lobes and it is not white; but, a blushed pink with the pink not being uniform all over the flower face. This plant however; the species Phal. philippinensis, is spectacular!

Here is a link to Stony Brook Orchids. They have nice photos of both leucorrhoda and philippinensis for you to see for yourself. Once you see both, it is obvious that your plant is philippinensis. http://http://www.stonybrookorchids.com/phals.php

Here's my philippinensis: http://forum.theorchidsource.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/178198/Searchpage/1/Main/34966/Words/philippinensis/Search/true/Phalaenopsis_philippinensis_Ki.html#Post178198

Phal. philippinesis

Well, that is very interesting, John. It came to Porter's several years ago with a group of legally collected wild plants. I fell in love with the leaves, so had to get one. A couple years ago, it even won best of class in an orchid show as the species x leucorrhoda. I've thought about getting a philippinense, and I guess now I don't have to. Just have to change the tag!

Thanks, John and Ramon for the info.

Never heard of it, with parents like that it can't help but be floriferous!

I don't doubt that. The incorrect name got so firmly into the mainstream of the orchid world, many plants were judged without the (x leucorrhoda), name being brought into question. Actually, "x leucorrhoda" was thought for a long time to be a synonym for philippinensis; but, in actuality, the two names refer to two different plants, not the same one. However, luckily, the mess got sorted out eventually.....although, apparently, there are still some plants out there with the bogus name.

BTW: It's philippinensis, not philippinense.

Getting the word out is happening, plant by plant! :D

Yes -- I caught that later, after I logged out. I have it correct on the new tag.
